Middleton Cheney Primary Academy is celebrating the publication of its latest Ofsted inspection report, which highlights the school’s strong culture of care, inclusion and ambition for every child. Inspectors praised the academy’s welcoming environment, strong relationships and the pride pupils feel in being part of the school community.

The report captures the positive atmosphere that pupils experience every day, with children describing the school as “the best place” and saying, “you feel that you are in a community.” Inspectors recognised that pupils are “valued, cared for and supported,” noting the calm, inclusive and friendly environment that greets children each morning.

The inspection highlighted several key strengths across the academy, including:

• A strong Early Years provision where children are independent, curious and excited to learn
• Respectful behaviour and positive attitudes to learning across the school
• A strong safeguarding culture where pupils feel safe and supported
• Inclusive provision that enables all pupils, including those with additional needs, to learn successfully alongside their peers
• Strong relationships between staff, pupils and families that create a culture of trust and belonging

Inspectors also recognised the school’s commitment to high-quality teaching, noting that pupils achieve well from their starting points and are well-prepared for the next stage of their education. The report praised the school’s sequenced curriculum, focus on communication and vocabulary, and the positive impact of staff training and leadership development.

Headteacher Theresa Hillier praised the dedication of staff, pupils and families following the outcome of the inspection.

“This report reflects the warmth, commitment and ambition that our whole school community demonstrates every day. We are incredibly proud of our children, whose kindness, confidence and enthusiasm for learning shine throughout the report.”

The report also highlighted the academy’s broad personal development offer, including sports leadership opportunities, extra-curricular clubs, residential visits and pastoral support that helps pupils feel valued and included.

As part of the inspection process, leaders identified clear next steps to continue strengthening provision further, including refining curriculum adaptation for all learners, improving attendance for some groups of pupils and deepening pupils’ understanding of British values.

Dear Parents, Carers and Members of our Community,

I am writing to you following the recent inspection of Middleton Cheney Primary Academy, and I wanted to take a moment not simply to share the outcome, but to reflect on what this report truly represents.

Over recent months, I have shared a number of updates through our newsletters about the evolving Ofsted framework and what inspectors are now looking for in schools. At Prime7, we have been very clear that our focus is not on inspection itself, but on creating environments where children feel safe, valued and able to thrive. It is therefore particularly heartening to see that this report captures exactly that.

What stands out most powerfully is the voice of the children.

Pupils describe the school as ‘the best place’ and say ‘you feel that you are in a community.’ They talk about belonging, kindness and pride. These are not small statements. They reflect something deep and meaningful about the culture that has been built at Middleton Cheney. A culture that aligns directly with the school values and our Prime7 values of enjoyment, respect, ambition and community.

The report recognises that pupils are ‘valued, cared for and supported’ and that relationships across the school are strong and trusting. It highlights children skipping into school each day into a calm, inclusive and friendly environment. For me, this is what truly matters. When children feel safe and known, everything else becomes possible.

There are so many aspects of the report that we are proud of:

• The strength of early years provision, where children are described as independent, curious and excited to learn

• The strong culture of safeguarding, where every adult takes responsibility and children feel safe

• Pupils’ behaviour, which is described as respectful, kind and focused on learning

• The way older pupils support younger ones, showing empathy, responsibility and leadership

• The inclusive ethos, ensuring all pupils, including those with additional needs, learn successfully alongside their peers

These are not isolated strengths, they are the result of sustained commitment from leaders, staff, governors, parents and the wider community.

Importantly, the report also recognises that the school knows itself well. There is a clear understanding of what is working and where we need to go next. This aligns with our approach across Prime7: we are always striving to improve, particularly in ensuring that learning is consistently adapted for all pupils, strengthening attendance, and deepening pupils’ understanding of values in the wider context of society.

I would like to personally thank the staff and leadership team at Middleton Cheney. The report reflects not only their professionalism, but their care, dedication and belief in every child. I would also like to thank you, as parents and carers, for the strong partnerships that inspectors recognised as a key strength.

Most of all, I want to acknowledge the children. Their words, their attitudes and their sense of pride in their school are what make this report so special.
